LES DAMES DU DOC project

LES DAMES DU DOC is an Internet portal that showcases Québec women documentary filmmakers and their films. It also fosters networking and resource sharing. This portal, available on the web, tablet and smartphone, comes on the heels of the book “40 ans de vues revées”, which provided a directory of Québec women feature film directors.

The activities proposed by this platform are organized around several axes:

Female Directors A-Z

A directory of Québec women documentary film directors dating from the onset of documentary filmmaking 45 years ago. It takes the form of a personal file that includes a photo or video interview, bio-filmography, and links to distributors or online viewing sites of their work.

Video Portraits

19 video portraits of independent female directors who have left their mark on Québec documentary filmmaking history (recent and more distant). Each 3 – or 4 – minute capsule presents a female director and a film.

Confessions of a female director: 3 true stories

15 confessions of women directors: 3 “true stories” (about 25 minutes) from each of the female directors invited to our film club. Several of these confessions are already online; others will be added over the coming months.

Film Club

Once a month over a period of almost 2 years, a woman documentary filmmaker presents her film in public at the ARRQ’s screening room. Several such evenings have already taken place, with a well-stocked bar, grilled cheese sandwiches made with an iron, a full house and a festive atmosphere.

Online Cinema

Every month, a documentary made by one of the women filmmakers listed in our directory will be featured on our online cinema. You can also choose from our already impressive repertory of documentaries which will grow over time.

Doc Swap

An advice and service exchange forum for female documentary filmmakers to foster sharing and intergenerational exchanges, in order to assist each other and support our practice.
