BIOGRAPHY

Renée Beaulieu holds a Ph.D. in film studies, a diploma in screenwriting from INIS (Institut national de l’image et du son) and is a pharmacist. She has scripted, directed and produced several short films, written for television and theater, and published short stories and poetry. She teaches screenwriting and film production at the Université de Montréal, is attached to INIS as a tutor in the feature film writing program and works as a screenwriting consultant. In 2007, she wrote the screenplay for The Fight. In 2015, she signed her first feature film, Adrien, both of which were selected for numerous international festivals and won several awards. The filmmaker’s three feature films bear her signature scriptwriting, producing, directing and editing skills. A unique style, subjects rarely seen in cinema, a particular, direct and frontal gaze. Les Salopes or the Naturally Wanton Pleasure of Skin (2018) tackles female sexuality, while Ines (2021) deals with the psychological distress of a young woman at an existential breaking point.
