BIOGRAPHY
Ralitsa Doncheva is a Bulgarian artist and filmmaker working with 16mm film, video and installation. In her practice, she combines experimental analogue film traditions with nonfiction and poetic approaches. Drawing on tactile and improvisational processes, her Balkan heritage and mythology, her films evoke shimmering worlds on the verge of disappearance. A solo film program, (almost) impossible worlds, comprising three of her recent films has been exhibited at the Dazibao gallery in Montréal. In addition, her film Baba Dana Talks To The Wolves received The Eileen Maitland Award at the 54th Ann Arbor film festival and an honorable mention at the Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival. Her last film Desert Islands, made with her father, has been presented at the Festival Du Nouveau Cinema and at the Images Film Festival in Toronto. Ralitsa lives in Tio’tia:ke/ Montréal where she is actively involved in film and artistic communities. Her recent collaborations have been shown in galleries and museums such as Musée d’art de Joliette, the Foremen Art Gallery (Sherbrooke), the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal and most presently at the Canadian Centre for Architecture.
