BIOGRAPHY

Paula Bourgie is a Montréal-born filmmaker and animator, whose character-driven work lives at the intersection of drama, comedy and mystery. She graduated with honours from Columbia University’s Film MFA program in New York City in 2024. After winning the top awards at CUFF (Columbia University Film Festival) including the National Film Board Grant, Best Film and Best Director in New York and Los Angeles, her thesis film The Loon embarked on its festival run, premiering at Fantasia in July 2025, and travelling internationally across North America and Europe, earning audience and jury awards along the way. In 2025, Paula completed a screenwriting lab in Montréal’s ENH (National Humour School) to develop a mystery dramedy series. She is also developing a feature-film script she plans to direct in coming years. Alongside her writing projects, Paula is completing her stop-motion short The Undertaker’s Daughter, a fairy tale about life and death she conceptualized, directed and animated during the pandemic.
