BIOGRAPHY
Promising Quebec director Mélanie Charbonneau has made her mark, thanks to numerous large-scale projects. She has been making movies, web series and advertising, all of her achievements have in common an approach filled with humour and humanity. Her first short film, Seule has been noticed in several international festivals including Cannes, Namur, Fantasia, Cambridge, Off-Courts Trouville and Cinema on the Bayou festival. Her film Lunar-orbit rendezvous takes the form of a romantic sci-fi comedy. It was screened in official competition at the Locarno Festival in 2018, then presented in around forty other international festivals, where it won numerous awards in 2019, it was a finalist for the Iris for the best short film at the Gala Quebec Cinema.
With Fabuleuses, her first feature film, Mélanie Charbonneau brings us into the universe of three young modern women trying to make their place in the world and above all…on social networks. They sign, with her co-writer Geneviève Pettersen, a vital work that makes people laugh and think. The film won the Award at BUSAN South Korea Film Festival in 2019.
In the fall of 2021, she signed the web series Welcome To Soulshine (Je ne suis pas un robot), a dive into the world of content moderators, broadcast on Télé-Québec, the series travels to festivals and has won numerous awards including that of best drama webseries at TO Webfest. In 2022, Mélanie embarks on a new cinematic adventure with the Out Standing, her second feature film for which she co-signs the screenplay. The film, shot in English, takes us through the disturbing story of Sandra Perron, the first female infantry officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.
