BIOGRAPHY

Writer-director based in Montreal, Joëlle loves cinema that makes the mind smile. Her work in fiction is based on the search for a poetic meaning in everyday life, which she transposes in an offbeat way in her projects, mixing grey humour and fantasy.

Joëlle has just completed the direction of her first feature film, Rodeo, produced by Colonelle Films. The film, which is just beginning its festival career, won top honors at the Whistler Film Festival 2022, with the Borsos Best Director Award and the EDA Award – Best Female-Directed Feature. Rodeo will be released in theaters in 2023.

She has written and directed 6 short films that have made a mark on the festival circuit, including Paparmane (Canada’s Top 10 – TIFF 2012 + Best Comedy Award – Yorkton Film Festival), Sans dehors ni dedans (Grand Jury Prize – Festival des films de la relève 2014) and Flots gris, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2016, her short films were featured in a retrospective at Filmfest Dresden in 2018, entitled “Manifesto For A Poetical-Whimsical-Realism“.

In parallel to her work in film, Joëlle has been evolving for the past ten years as a director in advertising and television (Parfaitement imparfait, Di Stasio, Formule Diaz, Les Argonautes, Une vue sous les étoiles, Le design est partout).
