BIOGRAPHY

Born in the Innu community of Nutashkuan on the North Shore, Jani discovered her passion for cinema at a very young age. In 2009, when the Wapikoni mobile visited her part of the country, she took the plunge and directed her first short film, Nika tsheka uiten mishkut (Don’t tell). Noticed in several festivals, the success of the film confirmed to her that this is what she wants to do in life. In 2015, she completes her training at Inis to go even further and deepen her knowledge in directing.

Jani is the first recipient of the Kuessipan Grant, which will allow her to develop her first feature film entitled La grand’ route, a fictional story about the meeting between an Aboriginal woman from Nutashkuan and an Aboriginal man from Montreal, during the extension of Highway 138 in 1996.
