BIOGRAPHY
Frédérique Collin is a Quebec actress, screenwriter, and director born in Montreal in 1944. A prominent figure in Quebec cinema and theater since the 1970s, she has distinguished herself with memorable roles in films directed by Denys Arcand (Réjeanne Padovani, Gina) and Francis Mankiewicz (Le Temps d’une chasse), as well as in works such as Lucien Brouillard, Trois pommes à côté du sommeil and Marie s’en va-t’en ville by Marquie Lepage – a role for which she was a finalist for the Genie Award for Best Actress.
In 1980, she stepped behind the camera with La cuisine rouge, a film she co-wrote and co-directed with Paule Baillargeon, marking her debut as a director. This daring project demonstrated her commitment to female-led, socially conscious storytelling.
On stage, she has played numerous roles, notably in Michel Tremblay’s plays, and works regularly with Quebec’s major theater companies.
After a hiatus marked by personal challenges, Frédérique Collin returned to the public eye to speak candidly about her journey to recovery, becoming an important voice in raising awareness about mental health and addiction.
