BIOGRAPHY

Catherine completed her bachelor’s degree, specializing in film production, at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Concordia University, in Montreal. Her work was recognized when she received the Kodak Award for her cinematography on the film Between Mother and Earth, which depicts an Italian-Quebecer woman’s search for her cultural identity, as well as for her directing work on the film The Girl Next Door, which illustrates the youth of a young hearing-impaired adolescent.

Catherine went on to receive a Master’s degree from the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI) in Los Angeles, completing the specialized cinematography program. Her work on her thesis film Shadowbox, about a kidnapping of soldiers in Iraq, was recognized with a nomination for the 2007 ASC John Alonzo Heritage Award, as well as a Fuji Award in pre-production.

Catherine works as director of photography on a number of projects, including Edge of the Desert (2009), a film about debauched youth in Saskatchewan, portraits of female directors in Dames des vues (2013-2018), The House (2010) and Emptyness (2011), which deals with anorexia in teenage girls.

At the same time, she partnered with TFC Grues for television and film as a remote head camera operator, operating on a variety of projects and events. She is also involved with Réalisatrices Équitables (RÉ) in a number of projects promoting women filmmakers in Quebec.

She directed and photographed Philosophizing on Mathematics (2001), Trouble and Kids (2007) and Les écoles alternatives d’hier à demain (2007), as well as producing a host of educational and awareness-raising videos.
