BIOGRAPHY

Catherine Legault is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and editor, graduated from Concordia University in Film Production. A recipient of two Gémeaux Awards and the Iris Award for Best Documentary Editing at the Gala Québec Cinéma, she has edited several award-winning films that have screened internationally in theatres, festivals, and on television over the past twenty years.

Catherine’s work is appreciated for its sensitivity, fluidity, and ability to navigate through a multitude of perspectives. Art in all its forms, travel, identity, family, and intergenerational transmission are themes that have often accompanied her in her editing practice. For the past few years, Catherine has also been hosting the podcast L’art du montage (The Art of Editing) and teaching at INIS (Institut nationale de l’image et du son).

In 2016, Catherine founded Concerto Films and directed her first feature-length documentary, Sisters: Dream & Variations (2019), which was awarded at The IndieFEST Film Awards in five categories and at the Gala Québec Cinéma for Best Original Music for Documentary. Catherine’s next documentary, Larry (they/them), will be released in 2024.
