BIOGRAPHY

Aimée Danis is a Quebec film director and producer. A native of Maniwaki, she started out as an assistant scriptwriter at Télévision de Radio-Canada, then worked with Jacques Godbout on his film YUL 871, before becoming the first woman in Quebec to direct television commercials. Her advertising work includes campaigns for Hydro-Québec, Dominion, Desjardins and Peugeot. In the 1970s, she directed several short documentaries, as well as the TV film Souris, tu m’inquiètes (1973) and episodes for three TV series. She won Best Documentary Short at the 22nd Canadian Film Awards for KW+. In 1973, she was one of 14 Quebec filmmakers to sign a letter calling for a boycott of the ceremony because of the poor treatment of Quebec films. This protest led to the cancellation of the 25th Canadian Film Awards and the postponement of the 26th. In the 1980s, Aimée Danis turned to production, producing such films as Jean-Claude Lauzon’s Léolo and Michel Brault’s Mon amie Max, both nominated for Genie Awards in the Best Film category.
