BIOGRAPHY
Marie-France L’Ecuyer is a Montreal-based filmmaker, screenwriter, and photographer. Initially trained in the humanities as a clinician and researcher at the Université du Québec à Montréal, she turned to visual arts and photography in 2017, then to documentary filmmaking in 2021. This unique trajectory has nurtured a deeply humanistic and reflective artistic approach, where social engagement is woven into the fabric of her creative work. Marie-France is particularly interested in the relationship between humans and their environment. Combining visual poetry and powerful testimony, her work questions our relationship with the land and explores the intimate boundaries between the inner and outer worlds.
She produced and directed the short films Territoire intérieur (Interior territory) (2021) and Uapishka (2023), which were selected for several international film festivals, and also directed and was director of photography for the documentary web series La Virée du Saint-Laurent (The St. Lawrence River Adventure) (2022). Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, her first feature-length documentary, North of Ourselves (2025), had its world premiere at the Cinémania Film Festival.
