BIOGRAPHY

Alunaya (Jessica Valoise) is a filmmaker, visual artist and writer based in Montreal. Her work exists at the intersection of documentary essay, hybrid forms and embodied cinema, where the intimate engages in dialogue with collective history. Through her films, she explores memory, transmission, identity and living together through a sensitive and open approach, attentive to presence, listening and duration, affirming the political resonance of human experience without reducing its complexity.

She is currently in postproduction on Kubana, a feature-length documentary essay filmed in Rwanda that examines the memory of the genocide against the Tutsi and the possible paths toward reconciliation.

Alongside her work as a filmmaker, she maintains a multidimensional artistic practice combining image, writing, photography and visual arts. She has directed several documentary works and audiovisual projects including Des racines nées and Nio Far, and has collaborated on various projects as a director of photography, editor or director, as well as on music videos and artistic collaborations.
