BIOGRAPHY

Born in Montreal, filmmaker Phyllis Katrapani studied at the Université du Québec à Montréal (BAC en communication, option cinéma), the FAMU School of Cinema in Prague in the Czech Republic, where she directed her first film, Zatisi (Still Life, 1992) and the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Concordia University (MFA Film Production). She founded the production company, Île Blanche in 1995, and produced and directed Ithaka, a poetic medium-length fiction film. In 2002, she directed Home, an original feature film mixing both documentary and fiction genres. Within Reach (2006), is a personal documentary addressing questions of intimacy in art and the documentary filmmaker’s standpoint. On several occasion she has collaborated with different film and photography magazines. In 2011, she was artist in residence at The Centre for Contemporary Arts, CCA, Glasgow and in 2012 she undertook a cultural mediation project in a Québec High School. Phyllis Katrapani is also a film instructor.
