BIOGRAPHY
Born of a dual Québécois-Tunisian heritage and hailing from Rimouski, Myriam Guimond is a director, screenwriter, and producer. A graduate of Concordia University’s Film Production program and the UQAM Screenwriting program, her beginnings on film sets were marked by diversified involvement in numerous departments: sound, camera, assistant directing, script supervision, production management, and more. These experiences led her to pinpoint her true passion, towards which she sought to deepen her approach: directing. Her short film Jade & Mattéo (2015), which offers an intimate look at denial in the face of mental illness, garnered attention at several international festivals including REGARD, Clermont-Ferrand, and FFEQ, where it won the Jury’s Coup de cœur award. Subsequently, driven by a desire to explore the codes of thriller cinema, Myriam directed Partie de chasse (2017), which was selected for Talent tout court by Telefilm Canada at the Cannes Film Festival, and screened at numerous festivals worldwide over three years. In 2018, she was invited to participate in an import-export challenge in co-production with the Off-Courts Trouville Festival in Normandy, where she directed Les Ratées (2019), a horror film targeting a younger audience, presented in the official competition at Fantasia and FCVQ. Seeking to reconnect with human drama, Myriam then directed Les filles aussi, a nostalgic tale of adolescence inspired by the women around her. While the film’s premiere was scheduled for Talent Tout Court Cannes in 2020, the short film is currently continuing its festival journey, notably at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Her latest film, One of the boys, tackles issues of consent among young people and has recently been featured at the Aesthetica Film Festival and Bogoshort. The director is currently working on her first feature film with the support of Sodec and CALQ. She is also working on a series and a documentary. Through these diverse cinematic works, Myriam aims to tell innovative stories and give a voice to those whom society seems to want to erase.
